82nd Golden Globe Awards Predictions
My predictions and picks for the film categories in the Golden Globe Awards which air tonight.
We’re really off to the races!!
While the Gotham Awards were the official beginning of awards season, the Golden Globe Awards, which air tonight and will be hosted by Nikki Glaser, is when it really kicks into high gear. Below, I have my predictions and picks in almost every film category except one (Yes, that one!) along with select commentary in certain categories. Take a look!
Best Motion Picture- Drama:
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune: Part Two
Nickel Boys
September 5
Will Win: The Brutalist
Could Win: Conclave
Should Win: Nickel Boys

A Real Pain
The Substance

Payal Kapadia, All We Imagine as Light

Could Win: Audiard
Should Win: Kapadia
Fernanda Torres stars as Eunice Paiva in Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here.” (Photo courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics)
Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama:
Pamela Anderson, The Last Showgirl
Angelina Jolie, Maria
Nicole Kidman, Babygirl
Tilda Swinton, The Room Next Door
Fernanda Torres, I’m Still Here
Kate Winslet, Lee
This category is where I’m going with my biggest “No Guts, No Glory” pick: Fernanda Torres winning for I’m Still Here. As much as it could go to Angelina Jolie, a renowned star and Globes darling, the fact that Torres’ film got a corresponding Foreign Language Film nomination shows they liked her film a bit more than Jolie’s which only got a nomination here for her performance. Maybe it’s slight wishful thinking on my part, but I’m taking a swing and predicting Torres to pull an Isabelle Huppert and win the trophy.
Will Win: Torres
Could Win: Jolie
Should Win: Torres
Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama:
Adrien Brody, The Brutalist
Timothée Chalamet, A Complete Unknown
Daniel Craig, Queer
Colman Domingo, Sing Sing
Ralph Fiennes, Conclave
Sebastian Stan, The Apprentice
A tough category. But in case they want to spread the wealth, I’m going to guess they’ll go with Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown. If anything, the “Dune: Part Two” factor could help him. But if they really love The Brutalist, it could be Adrien Brody or Ralph Fiennes if they want to help commence the “It’s his time” narrative.
Will Win: Chalamet
Could Win: Brody or Fiennes
Should Win: Craig or Domingo
Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy:
Amy Adams, Nightbitch
Cynthia Erivo, Wicked
Karla Sofia Gascón, Emilia Pérez
Mikey Madison, Anora
Demi Moore, The Substance
Zendaya, Challengers
First off, what a category! I’d say there’s a case for almost anyone except Amy Adams, who’s the sole nomination for Nightbitch, or even my personal pick from this lineup, Zendaya in Challengers. But I’m settling on Demi Moore for The Substance. Besides maybe Screenplay, Moore is the best place to reward The Substance as even those who’re mixed on the film can admit that Moore is fantastic. Mikey Madison may be the overwhelming critical fave, but if Moore’s star power becomes an advantage, she might win in what is a nail-biter.
Will Win: Moore
Could Win: Anyone except Adams
Should Win: Zendaya
Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy:
Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain
Hugh Grant, Heretic
Gabriel LaBelle, Saturday Night
Jesse Plemons, Kinds of Kindness
Glen Powell, Hit Man
Sebastian Stan, A Different Man
Another slight nail-biter. While Jesse Eisenberg being the only one to have a corresponding Motion Picture nomination suggests it could go to him, given how co-star Kieran Culkin is earning the lion’s share of praise for its acting, it’s plausible they reward Culkin and opt for someone else here like Hugh Grant for Heretic or my prediction/hope, Sebastian Stan in A Different Man to ensure he doesn’t go home empty-handed as he’s a double nominee.
Will Win: Stan
Could Win: Eisenberg or Grant
Should Win: Stan
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture:
Yura Borisov, Anora
Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain
Edward Norton, A Complete Unknown
Guy Pearce, The Brutalist
Jeremy Strong, The Apprentice
Denzel Washington, Gladiator II
Will Win: Culkin
Could Win: Pearce
Should Win: Strong
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture:
Selena Gomez, Emilia Pérez
Ariana Grande, Wicked
Felicity Jones, The Brutalist
Margaret Qualley, The Substance
Isabella Rossellini, Conclave
Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez
Will Win: Saldaña
Could Win: Grande
Should Win: Jones
Best Screenplay:
Jacques Audiard, Emilia Pérez
Sean Baker, Anora
Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold, The Brutalist
Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain
Coralie Fargeat, The Substance
Peter Straughan, Conclave
Will Win: Baker
Could Win: Fargeat or Straughan
Should Win: Eisenberg
Best International Feature:
All We Imagine as Light
Emilia Pérez
The Girl With the Needle
I’m Still Here
The Seed of the Sacred Fig
Vermiglio
This award feels like an easy call with it going to the nomination leader, Emilia Pérez. Unless they were to throw a curve ball and go with the true best foreign language of the film of the year, All We Imagine as Light, allowing the criticism over India failing to make it their Oscar submission work in the film’s favor, this one feels pretty sewn-up (Unfortunately).
Will Win: Emilia Pérez
Could/Should Win: All We Imagine as Light
Best Animated Feature:
Flow
Inside Out 2
Memoir of a Snail
Moana 2
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
The Wild Robot
Another one that seems like an easy call. This award will more than likely go to The Wild Robot and it’ll be a deserved victory unless the other animated film in this category about the environment and animals forming a found family pulls off an upset.
Will Win: The Wild Robot
Could Win: Flow
Should Win: The Wild Robot
Best Original Score:
Volker Bertelmann, Conclave
Daniel Blumberg, The Brutalist
Kris Bowers, The Wild Robot
Clément Ducol and Camille, Emilia Pérez
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Challengers
Hans Zimmer, Dune: Part Two
Will Win: Blumberg
Could/Should Win: Reznor & Ross
Best Original Song:
“Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl
“Compress/Repress” from Challengers
“El Mal” from Emilia Pérez
“Forbidden Road” from Better Man
“Kiss The Sky” from The Wild Robot
“Mi Camino” from Emilia Pérez
Will Win: “Mi Camino”
Could Win: “El Mal”
Should Win: “Compress/Repress”
